Just a quick post to show a picture of the 3 remaining frigates of the first squadron, these are just base layers at the moment along with an wash on the hull…… much more to do but it shows the use of replacement plating from scrounged and captured vessels (I hope!).
Also the Frostgrave rulebook arrived and it looks pretty fabulous, a mere £10(ish) on Amazon gets you a lovely hardback full of colour photos and what look to be a very elegant and streamlined set of rules. Amazing value frankly, and coupled with the option to use miniatures from any range this will make for a very exciting game world.
Since I’ve got a ton of old Rackham Confrontation models these will be the core of my warbands and I’ve already chosen the Dwarf Armourer (yeah, I know he’ll have a sword….. but he’s a practical kind of fellow) to be an Enchanter!
Pictures to follow….
Thanks for looking and all the best for 2016
Well the strange un-holiday that is Christmas is now kind of over and I can start to think about focusing on next year’s projects. I hope to focus much more on the development of this blog by posting much more regularly as well as revisiting some of the projects that I have hinted at over the last year.
I quickly made a list of all the game systems that I have miniatures for, and that need to get painted up:
- 6mm Napoleonic – for ebay and commissions
- Dystopian wars – Boxes of the stuff
- Firestorm Armada – Mostly Terran Alliance but also some Directorate, Aquan and others
- Star Wars Armada – I like the look of the rules (and the models) but want to use this in conjunction with Firestorm Armada – so lots of ships at a fraction of the price!
- Frostgrave – I Intend to use my store of Rackham Controntation miniatures to make some warbands, in particular Goblin (No Dan Kar Samurai), Dwarf and Human with a bunch of cool creatures.
- 7TV – A few starter sets and I just love the concept
- 10mm Fantasy – Dwarf, Ork & Goblin and Empire
This is the result of years of collecting and hoarding so, lots to do and I really want to get a variety of work on the go. On of the hopes for nest year is to get to Salute, I’ve never been to one of the big miniatures shows so it’s quite an exciting prospect. Also, having never been a gamer I might try and get involved in a club and find out what all the fuss is about!
Anyhow, in order to present evidence of some activity here are some WIP Australians:
There will be a number of panels that won’t match with a uniform scheme across the whole fleet. This is supposed to represent emergency repairs with armour plate from the vessels of vanquished foes, hopefully it’ll work out!
In other news, the Star Wars film was fantastic and I would second the many reviews that sung it’s praises. Fantastic fun and if you haven’t seen it then do! (preferably in an Everyman Cinema with a glass of wine…. nice).
Thanks for looking and there’ll be more soon.
Another huge delay in posting, although I now have a plan to be much more regular in getting models painted and photographed (he says)! My tendency to buy whatever I can at sale prices mean that I often end up buying in bulk and having more models that could possibly be painted, especially when done alongside the Napoleonic Commissions. Anyhow, I’m trying to make a bit more space for painting items for myself and at the moment the self indulgent work is very much based on Spartan Games miniatures – I just can’t get enough of them – and now have piles of boxes for Dystopian, Firestorm Armada and Planetfall which all need to be painted.
Having cracked open my Dystopian wars Australians I began by giving them an good clean as well as magnetising the turrets and guardian generator covers.
Magnetised Guardian Generator covers:
Battleship turret variants:
First painted ship, Australian Frigate:
Okay, so they took a while to get prepped, but once all the fussy cleaning and drilling was done I love the general feel of the fleet. To me it has a kind of heavily armed merchant/mercenary feel to it – especially the sub tenders since they almost look a bit like converted trawlers!
I have an idea to paint all the fleet individually (I really don’t enjoy batch or unit painting), using a variety of different paint schemes to suggest a ragtag amalgamation of anarchists (no large ships for them!), outcasts, traitors and adventurers form a vast array of Nations and ideologies all working together….. for the time being…. for mutual self interest.
I’m planning to add ships and air units from at least the Italians, HEC, Black Wolf and hope to add even more to create the largest most disparate – and somewhat unreliable – mercenary force on the planet!
